Koduro !
by Marc Nostromo
Saturday, before joining Patric on stage at electro J, I had the time to finally spend some time with Hugo, who I had met already but always in dodgy rushed or party condition so it was nice to finally have some chilled time together.
He invited us at his place for the most amazing green tea I’ve ever had and some random chit chat. Hugo is a huge music lover and as we were sipping on our tea, he was doing a little improvised eclectic DJ set. At one point, he told us he was going to play some ‘Angolese techno’ for us, which made me and Patric smile, but as soon as the first track kicked in, we got baffled by the niceness of it. Turns out the genre is called ‘Koduro‘ and it is a strange mix of very early house (I’m talking ’89 housenation style here), calypso rythms and excellent gritty voices. It’s not agressive yet very rythmic and it’s a perfect ass shaker for both boys & girls. The masala blog has an excellent collection of 10 essential track to start with. Make sure you also watch the Costuleta video… a strange colorful mix of clutches & bikini girls.
We love you angola !
